In October 2000, Lucy Costigan flew from Dublin, Ireland, to Silicon Valley, California, to complete a 10-day contract. But destiny had other plans in store. On her first day in the Valley Lucy formed an immediate connection with one of her co-workers, Bob. Thus began a three-year adventure living in Santa Clara and exploring every corner of California: snow-capped mountains en route to Lake Tahoe; lush autumn vineyards in Napa and Sonoma; magical redwoods in Santa Cruz and giant sequoias in Yosemite; the splendour of the Pacific ocean in summertime; the barren wilderness of the Mojave Desert in winter. Then there were the incredible cities of San Francisco, Los Angeles and Sacramento to explore, and trips to favourite towns where the 1960s could still be revisited, such as Santa Cruz with its wonderful bookstores, great coffee shops, and quirky inhabitants. Many weekends were spent exploring the Santa Cruz mountains, State Parks, and spectacular beaches, cruising in Bob’s greeny-blue miata, soaking up sumptuous mountain views under both turquoise skies and glittering blankets of stars.
